As part of our Heritage Lottery funded activities program, we’d like to invite you to a free talk at the General Cemetery about the birds that can be found here. If we’re lucky we’ll see the rare Spotted Flycatcher! Bob Smith will be leading with a presentation in the Chapel, then we’ll have time for questions before a walk around the Cemetery.
Bob is a member of the Cambridgeshire Bird Club and a member of the Wisbech Society. He is also secretary of the Fenland Archaeological Society and is currently completing postgraduate studies into the history and archaeology of the Highlands and Islands, as well as intending to start a book about the mercantile trade of Wisbech.

Event leader: Night Animals and Creatures
Join us after hours at the recently renovated Wisbech General Cemetery Chapel for an evening of FREE fun crafts and events with a theme of “night animals and creatures”. Families can come and meet and hold a real owl supplied by local handler and make crafts to take home including origami bats and glowing fireflies. There will be a tour of the cemetery grounds at 5.30pm where you will be able to discover more about the important people of the town who are buried there and the recent works to identify Commonwealth War graves. There will also be an opportunity to learn about the recent chapel restoration funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
The event is funded and arranged by the National Lottery Funded Wisbech High Street Project as part of its Activity Plan designed to encourage local residents to visit museums and historic locations around the town.
